Course Description

This digital course called Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Teaching will provide basic information you need to help you think through how GenAI tools like TerpAI, Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Adobe Firefly and others will affect your teaching and your students’ learning. After learning some basics about how these tools work, you'll be given the opportunity to think through ways to incorporate and/or deter GenAI in your assignments and activities. You will leave with draft syllabus language you can use to clarify expectations in your course.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this digital course, you will be able to:

• Explain generally how GenAI tools work.
• Reflect on the uses of different UMD-approved GenAI tools in your classes.
• Develop a stance on whether you will incorporate GenAI tools in your courses, and draft syllabus language to match it.

Expectations

This digital course consists of 3 lessons, which altogether will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. Additional resources or tips for further exploration are provided at the end of each lesson. Each lesson culminates in a knowledge check to confirm what you have learned and enable you to move on to the next lesson.
